Encouraging words of life from the Word of life

Vitamins for the soul

by Patrick R. Briney, Ph.D.

You are constantly changing. Is it for good?

Change is constant.

Don’t fret over change. Imagine if you couldn’t!

Look at inevitable change as opportunity for inevitable improvement.

The nice thing about inevitable change is that remaining in sin and misery is not inevitable. It’s a promise.

Bothered by change? Find God. He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever.

When you reach perfection, you no longer change. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Some things never change. God is one of those things.

An unchanging God can make unchanging changes in your life.

Ask not how to prevent change. Ask how fast and which way.

Ask God to change you for good, and He will change you for good.

Let God change you, and He will make everlasting change.

If you are good for change, you can be changed for good.

Change to be more like Christ, and you will be blessed.

You’ve never changed enough.

Change is like a moving car without brakes. You can’t change it, but you can steer it.

Change is like avalanche. There is nothing you can do about it.

Accept change as a fact of life. To do otherwise will leave you bitter.

Change reminds us that we are not in control. It occurs whether we like it or not.

To resist change is futile.

To change or not to change is not the question. But how will you change?

Change is a constant in life.

Change not avoidable. Ecclesiastes 3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;

Change for God brings attention to that which is good.

Change for God brings attention to God.

Change for God brings attention to those who experience it.

Change for God and for good is a good thing.

The ultimate mother’s day story: How to be born again, be born free, be born of promise from God and not by the plans and power of man.

Ishmael, born of the flesh, by the power of flesh, by the will of man, by the scheming of man, and by the wisdom of man. Disaster. Ga 4:21

In desperation and with a desire to fulfill God’s promise, Sara, (76 yrs), concocted a plan to fulfill God’s promise. Ga 4:21-31

Mt. Sinai, mountain of law, where Israel agreed to live by God’s commands and covenant. The mountain of sin and death. Ga 4:21-31

Jerusalem, capital of the Promised Land, where the temple of God was built, and where God will reign on earth. Ga 4:21-31

In Ga 4:26, Paul is saying that Jerusalem is the mother of all those who are free, specifically, those made free in Christ.

Mother of us all’ phrase is found in Galatians 4:26, which says, “But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Born into bondage by the flesh, set free by new birth in the Spirit. Let God take all the credit.

Let no doubt exist that your new birth in Christ is by grace and power of God. Eph 2:8-9

The greatest book ever read by a mother to her children—God’s Word.

Paul’s message to us, “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.” Ga 4:28

Isaac born by divine promise. Born a free son. Unmistakably impossible by the power of man, brought to pass by God .

Abraham and Sara learned that what is unmistakably impossible by the power of man, God brings to pass.

Just as God promised, Abraham and Sara had a son “‘ Isaac; born by the miraculous power and promise of God.

Abraham and Sarah laughed at God’s impossible plan. Ge 17:17;18:12. Why? Mt 19:26.

Genesis 16:2 Sara’s plan, so, wrong in so many ways. Tis better to let God fulfill His own promises.

Ge 16:2, Sarah says, “Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearingI….” I have a plan.

In Ga 4:21-31, Paul uses allegories (v 24) to contrast being in bondage to the law with being free from that bondage.

Difficulty hearing God’s Spirit is lessened with exercise. Heb 5 :14.

Resisting God’s Spirit is accompanied by license to the flesh.

Will God bless your children? Ge 26:5

Eternal life is as secure as God’s promise. Anything else will leave you insecure. 1John 2:15

Eternal life is the promise of an eternal God who does eternal things. 1John 2:15

If God so loved the world, a Christian should do no less? 1John 2:11

Practice what you preach. 1John 2:4

Keep His Word, and perfect His love in you. 1John 2:5

If we confess our sins, God guarantees two things: 1) forgiveness and 2) cleansing. 1John 1:9

If Christians were not prone to sin, there would be no exhortations to the saved in the Bible to do right and sin not.

As light chases away darkness, so will righteousness chase away sin. Share fellowship with God so that others might share in the same. Looking for full joy in life? Read First John. 1John 1:4

Christ manifested is now testified of in living conformity to Him.

God perfected the inward man, and lets us work on the outward man to show us the futility of perfecting ourselves.

God perfected the inward man, and let’s us work on the outward man to show us our imperfection.

Loving God means that we desire to worship Him, serve Him, and be like Him.

God perfected the inward man, and lets us work on the outward man to prove that salvation is by grace.

Sin in the outward flesh is as real as the born again spirit within.

To sin or not to sin. So, what is the question?

Why is it needful that Christians be exhorted to not sin? 1John 1:8-2:1

Conformity to Christ should come from within.

John’s letter presupposes a new birth experience of those he is writing to (1John 2:12-14; 21)

Perfecting love for God begins at salvation. It continues to be perfected in a life of obedience. 1Jn 2:6

Obedience to God’s Word manifests the righteousness of Christ within.

Love for God produces obedience, which in turn manifests conformity to Christ.

Love for God begins with new birth. Perfecting that love comes with obedience.

Love for God begins with new birth. Perfecting that love comes with practice.

Obedience to anything before love for God is disobedience. See Matthew 22:36-40.

Obedience to anything before love for God leads to legalism. See Matthew 22:36-40.

The first commandment is to love God because everything falls into place after that.

A man is known by what he does. 1John 2:29

God gets to the heart of the matter”… your heart.

If outward conformity could cause love for God, then the church at Ephesus would have loved God.

The Ephesus church conformed outwardly without a perfected love from within. Revelation 2.

The old testament demands superficial outward conformity to law. The new testament expects outward manifestation of inward conformity.

Light shines where there is belief in the Son.

If we confess that we have sin, then He is faithful and just to forgive us.

To deny the sacrifice of Christ for your sins is to call Him a liar.

Fellowship in light means darkness is not present.

Just as darkness is no more when light shines, sin is no more where God shines.

Just as there is no darkness where there is light, there is no sin where there is godliness.

Darkness flees from light, not vice versa.

How shall they believe in truth if they hear not? Declare!

Walking in the light of truth is fellowship with the God of truth.

Joy and fellowship in truth and righteousness is lost in darkness and sin.

Fellowship in light prevents fellowship in darkness.

Sharing truth is shining The Light which brings life, which is fellowship in God.

Personal joy and fellowship with God comes with walking with God and living in light.

In God there is no darkness. In darkness there is no truth. In truth there is light. In light there is life. Find God, find life.

Declaring truth of the Word is for purpose of life in the Word.

The world continues not because we are good, but because He is good.

Fellowship with God requires fellowship in light because He is light.

1Jn 7 ..if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,…

Romans 1:21 “..when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations..”

As the resurrection legitimized Christ’s claims, so too demonstrating a new life in Christ legitimizes your claim to be Christian.

God does not condemn because of what you do not know (ignorance). Rm 1:18

Those who killed Jesus are dead, but He is alive!

Resurrection of Christ is the vindication of truth rejected.

Resurrection of Christ is the beautification of an ugly crucifixion.

Ac 24:15 …have hope toward God, … that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Preparing for resurrection Sunday involves being ready for personal resurrection.

1Jo5:18 We know..whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not

God is love.

Jesus and the Father are one, yet different. 1Cor15:27 …all things are put under [him, it is] manifest that he is excepted…

1Cor15:27 …But when he saith all things are put under [him, it is] manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

A nation disconnected from God and Bible will be neither godly or wise.

Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Carnal Christianity begins in a state of ‘well-being.’ Rev 2:4

You’re never good enough to be saved. Are you bad enough?

Are you bad enough to save? Psalms 25:11, For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it [is] great.

Ecc 3:20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Ac 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having …of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this

Psalms 20:6 Now know I that the LORD saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Proverbs 8:6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips [shall be] right things.

For the lost, no matter how good it is now, it will always end bad. For the saved, no matter how bad it is now, it will end better.

Jesus offers hope for the hopeless.

Ask not what you can do as others do. But rather ask what God would have you to do. –1Sam 8:1-10.

1Sam 8:5, “… now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”

We need not be as others to be right. 1Sam 8:1-10.

Many laughed at Jesus. Mark 5:40. His disciples should expect no less.

If every event, including every human decision and action is the inevitable and necessary consequence of antecedent events, who is guilty?

Rev 19:15.  God needs no help to take down His enemies.

Rev 19:15.  Stand back, and watch God do all the work.

Jer 23:4, And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed….

Luke 5:31,  And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

As a dog with tongue and slobber improves a Rembrandt painting, so does a man improve on the work of God.

Do we rise above to help God, or do we lower Him? Both? Romans 10:6-7

He who thinks to have done enough to gain God’s favor will sadly receive that which he deserves.

He who thinks to have done enough to gain God’s favor will find out it wasn’t.

He who thinks to have done enough to gain God’s favor fails to receive it.

Rom 11:36, For of him, and through him, and to him, [are] all things to whom [be] glory for ever. Amen.

God is sufficient for insufficient man.

He who thinks to help God is in need of help.

Death comes unexpectedly. Are you ready?

Romans 3:28, Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Death is inevitable, but the timing is often unpredictable, therefore preparation is crucial.

Rom 3:28  Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselvesit is the gift of GodEph 2:8

God’s ways are always right.

If you disciple one this year, when should you begin?

Take the Love of God with the Word of God to the world.

Take the Word of God with the love of God to the world.

Minister with truth or love? Not a choice.  Serving Christ requires both.

Rm1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Rm 1:21 ..when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations…

Same Problem same God same solution past present future.

Decay of culture reflects decay of values reflects decay of conscience reflects decay of moral authority reflects decay of belief in God.

God promises to save by grace & mercy because we are unworthy.

Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither..

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

David conquered his giants with God’s help. Will you?

God has a plan for your life. It is the best plan for you. It is the most satisfying and beneficial plan for you. There is none better.

God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Because what we do know about science “˜God of the gaps’ is obsolete atheistic argument.

God is logical conclusion because what we do know about science rules out naturalistic explanations.

God is logical conclusion because laws of what we know about thermodynamics, biogenesis, and probabilities rule out naturalistic explanations.

Properties of energy indicate that the universe and life do not create themselves. Atheists claim they do. Who is right?

If extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, what shows that energy created and organized itself contrary to what is known?

Nothing extraordinary in believing God created. Most do. Extraordinary indeed is believing energy created itself contrary to what is known.

God created energy and determined the quantity of forces involved, which makes predicting behavior of energy possible… creation science.

Properties of energy indicate that the universe and life do not create themselves.

Science rules out what is not possible to discover what is possible. Atheism loses.

How do atheists explain the origin of life without contradicting laws of science. Better yet, show that it is possible.

Atheists cannot explain the origin of life without contradicting known laws of science.

Atheists believe nothing exploded into everything. Does that make sense to anybody else?

Having no other than themselves to appeal to, atheists resort to SELF-righteous standards to judge others.

The problem with Christianity is not its founder or His teachings. It is with those claiming to follow Him.

Knowing right and doing right are two different things.

Atheists hold a multitude of differing views but all agree that there is no God. Beginning wrong, they end wrong.

There are many paths that lead to wrong conclusions.

There is more than one way to reach the same wrong conclusion.

If you are wrong, it doesn’t matter how you got there. You are still wrong.

Atheism’s extraordinary belief that nothing exploded into everything lacks not only a hint of evidence but contradicts laws of energy.

Jesus said to love your enemies. Mao said Communism is not love. Communism is a hammer we use to crush the enemy. Careful who you follow.

Unguided by higher ethics, atheists must resort to self-righteous rules. Pity those ruled by the self-righteous. See Stalin and Mao.

Government guided by self-righteous atheists leads to oppression of the masses. See Mao and Stalin.

As New Testament Christians, we do not keep Old Testament. Laws in the new often overlap the old. Others do not.

God is often blamed for the faults of others.

Naturalism contradicts laws of science for origin of universe and life. This is not simple.

The philosophy of naturalism more complicated than the Biblical God.

Apply Occam’s razor to the question of origins, and God wins.

Ultimately, God resolves all suffering and evil. Rev 21:1-6

God condemns people when it is righteous and just to do so.

Christian doctrine allows free thought. Atheism squashes thought. See Stalin and Mao.

Burden of proof on new atheist is result of their claim that evidence argues against theism. Therefore prove the evidence.

Creation science does not ignore and deny natural processes. Rather it affirms them when warranted.

Creation science is free to follow the evidence where it leads. Evolution requires a natural explanation in spite of the evidence.

The presumption of atheism in science is not only an assumption. It is contradictory to known laws.

Creation science is compatible with Bible. Bible science incorporates the Bible.

Christians must now address consideration for atheism and extreme secularization to be effective in future evangelism.

Secularization of a culture over time: Atheism was once impossible to accept. Eventually, atheism was possible to deny. Now atheism is impossible to deny.

Moral pluralism must eventually give way to a dominant ethic.

Moral pluralism inhibits truth telling.

Love God and fulfill the first command. Everything else follows.

Real faith gives answers and shows that preparing yourself to give answers is part God’s will for your life.
